What is the history of Children’s Miracle Network Canada?
In 1983, the Children’s Miracle Network began as a televised fundraiser in a small studio. Marie Osmond, John Schneider, Mick Shannon and Joseph G. Lake co-founded Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals® along with a small, dedicated team of 20 children’s hospitals, 20 television stations, six sponsors, and a handful of national staff.
Today, we are 170 children’s hospitals, 14 of which are in Canada. Countless individuals, organizations and media partners have come together with a common goal—to help sick and injured kids in local communities. We touch the lives of more kids and their families than any other children’s charity.
Visit our about us page for more information on some key milestones in our Canadian history.
Donations
How can I donate?
You can donate in many ways! We have a ton of events happening throughout the year that you can support. You can also donate online or participate in one of our signature programs, like Extra Life or Miracle Dance Marathon. If none of those options are what you’re looking for, you can even start your own fundraiser! Just contact us, let us know your idea and we can help get you set up.
How is my donation used?
Your donation supports the needs of our 14 member children’s hospitals in Canada where they are needed most. These unrestricted donations are often used to support the following:
- fund critical treatment
- healthcare services
- pediatric medical equipment
- charitable care
How are the funds distributed?
Funds are distributed across the community in which they are raised so that donations are directed to local hospitals. In other words, where you donate is where your money goes.
When a donation is made online, you can select the hospital you want to support. That way, if you’re interested in donating to one hospital, but you’re currently in another area in Canada, you can send it wherever you want. The donation is sent to that hospital and that hospital acknowledges the donation with a tax receipt.
Why does my local children’s hospital need my support?
2.3 million children are treated in our Canadian member hospitals each year. That number is staggering. Our member children’s hospitals work to be available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, to help kids of all ages overcome every injury and illness imaginable. This includes preventing disease and injury through research, education and outreach programs to continue to keep millions of kids out of the hospital each year.
How can I update or cancel my donation?
Please send us an email via our contact form or call 801.214.7400. To make a donation, please complete our donation form.
How can I participate in a fundraising event?
There are several fundraisers and signature events that occur throughout the year that you can participate in. Check out our Campaigns Page or the How To Help page for more information on events.
I made a donation - how do I receive my tax receipt information?
In acknowledgement of your support, your Children’s Miracle Network Canada Member Hospital will issue you an official tax receipt. This may take up to three months to process.
I made a donation to Extra Life and haven’t received my tax receipt yet, can you help?
Please note that all tax receipts for the Extra Life program are issued by the Canadian hospital foundation selected by each participant and is identified on the acknowledgement email you received upon making your online contribution. We ask for your patience as our foundations are working hard to get your tax receipts out as quickly as possible beginning in February. If you have received an incorrect receipt, the amount of the receipt is incorrect, or it is after April 1st, 2020 and you have not yet received your tax receipt by the identified hospital foundation, we ask you to please contact the hospital foundation directly.
How do I contact my local hospital?
In Canada, tax receipts are issued by each local hospital foundation, not through our office. If you donated to the following hospitals in 2019, you can expect to get your receipt from the hospital’s foundation by April 1st. You can find a contact listing of all of our member hospitals below:
- Alberta Children’s Hospital Foundation
- BC Children’s Hospital Foundation
- CHEO Foundation
- Children’s Health Foundation
- Children’s Hospital of Manitoba Foundation
- IWK Foundation
- Janeway Children’s Hospital Foundation
- Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital Foundation
- McMaster Children’s Hospital Foundation
- Operation Enfant Soleil
- SickKids
- Stollery Children’s Hospital Foundation
My acknowledgement email didn’t have a hospital on it, what does that mean?
If your acknowledgement email does NOT have an identified hospital foundation on it, that means that the Extra Life participant that you supported is raising Mission Critical Funds, funds that support the overall success of the Extra Life program, and is not eligible for a Canadian tax receipt. Also note that due to privacy regulations, if you have made your contribution to an Extra Life participant via Facebook Fundraiser, Facebook is not legally able to share the personal information of donors with us, and therefore are not eligible for a Canadian tax receipt. If you still have further questions, please fill out the contact form so that a member of our team can follow up with you directly.
I made my donation at a store or business and haven’t received my tax receipt yet. Can you help me?
Please complete our Contact Us form HERE with your donation information, including the donation date, corporate partner campaign or retail location where your donation was made, and specific issue that you are experiencing, so we can best assist you in a timely manner. Thank you for your patience and, more importantly, for choosing to support sick and injured children treated within Canada.
